Psychotherapy for Depression, Anxiety, and Trauma:

Psychotherapy is the use of evidence-based treatments to address "an individual’s serious disorder of thought, cognition, mood, emotional regulation, perception or memory that may seriously impair the individual’s judgement, insight, behaviour, communication or social functioning".  Some common conditions Corrina is able to help clients address with psychotherapy include:

  • Depression
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Social Anxiety
  • PTSD and trauma
  • Addiction and Substance Misuse
  • Disordered Eating
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Climate Distress Counselling:

Corrina is also one of the first practitioners in the Eastern Ontario region to offer a specialized service that addresses the grief and anxiety many people are experiencing in relation to the climate crisis.  This type of counselling seeks to validate each person's emotional responses to the climate emergency while reducing any debilitating effects and fostering resilience in spite of it.

Climate Distress counselling seeks to empower, develop compassion, and activate clients toward meaningful change and connection.  Within our communities, our families, and ourselves.

General Counselling:

In addition, Corrina also offers general counselling support to address a range of challenging life events, such as:

  • miscarriage

  • burnout

  • divorce

  • parent/adult-child conflict

  • caregiver stress

  • life-threatening illness

  • disability

  • death of a loved one

In general counselling, a wide range of approaches may be used to support a person experiencing situational challenges that induce feelings of overwhelm, powerlessness, despair, and/or isolation.

Integrated Approaches:

Many clients report positive outcomes from the integration of psychotherapeutic tools and counselling strategies into a more individualized treatment approach.  The truth is that evidence-based protocols don't benefit everyone equally and there are many reasons why.  Whether a protocol lacks necessary cultural dimensions or the client's presenting issues are not succinctly reflected by the techniques, the helpfulness of these interventions may be limited as a result.

Furthermore, as the goals of many psychotherapy treatments are typically centered on symptom reduction and behavioural change, many clients will desire further interventions which facilitate deeper self-understanding and spiritual growth.  At Eastern Ontario Counselling Services, the inner wisdom of all clients regarding what they need to heal on any level is respected and cherished.
